Oracle Database Consolidation‚traditional and new methodology

There has been focus on DB consolidation since quite long due to multi-dimensional benefits that it can provide. There are various ways with which we can do DB consolidation like Schema Consolidation, Geographical consolidation, Instance based consolidation, Server consolidation, VM based consolidation. New Methodology of consolidation has it's foundation based on Oracle 12c multitenant architecture, Oracle Exadata, Oracle Cloud , Oracle supercluster, OEM 12c, etc. This paper provides in-depth details on consolidation options along with recommendation and best practices. This paper is aimed towards database administrators, architects and DB managers. It also covers the challenges, limitations and TCO calculation for business case preparation for DB consolidation project. From execution perspective it covers using OEM 12c consolidation planner. In summary, this paper provides good insight on Oracle database consolidation.

Niraj Mahajan is working as a Principal Consultant-Infrastructure with Infosys Ltd. and has more than 14 years of experience working with Oracle Database and tools. He did B.E. from K.D.K college of Engineering, Nagpur. He is an Oracle Certified Professional DBA (OCP) in Oracle 8i,9i,10g,11g and OCE 10g RAC. He has expertise around Oracle DB administration, OEM, Solution designing, Performance tuning and Cloud computing.

Abhinivesh Jain is working as Principal Consultant with Infosys Ltd. and has more than 13 years of experience working with Oracle Database and tools. He is an Oracle Certified Professional DBA (OCP) in Oracle 9i and 10g and is member of various Oracle user groups including IOUG, AIOUG and GOUSER. His core skills are Database design and administration, OEM12c, Solution architecture and tuning.
