A leading Digital Games developer introduced a new Revenue Model ‚Äì End Dated Subscription Games. These Games do not have a fixed Start Date and hence the Subscription term varies for different purchases. GAAP Accounting Standards expects the Revenue from the End Dated Subscription Games to be deferred and recognized over the Subscription term of the Game. While it was possible to amortize the Revenue evenly across periods using Variable Schedule Accounting Rule, Business requirement was to have a Fixed Schedule flavour in the Variable Accounting Rule. This paper discusses how the Standard Oracle functionality was used to implement this Business Requirement using minimum customization.
